Title: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant


POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for delivery and documentation of professional occupational therapy services to agency patients in accordance with an established plan of care and in compliance with applicable licensure or certification requirements, professional occupational therapy acts, and agency policies and procedures.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduate from an accredited school of occupational therapy with an evidence of currrent registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association and with the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners.
2. Current licensure in occupational therapy as requried by individual state of practice.
3. One (1) year of clinical experience in occupational therapy in an acute care rehabilitation setting, including exposure to geriatric and medical-surgical patients.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
5. Valid driver's license in the state of Texas, available and dependable transportation and proof of current automobile liability insurance.
6. Ability to meet minimum agency hiring standards which include evidence of current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate and willingness to perform such procedure in the home setting.
7. Essential physical, mental, and / or environmental working conditions:
a. Must be able to meet the physical demands which including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and transferring.
b. Must be able to utilize good judgement, demonstrate patience, and maintain a professional demeanor.
c. Must be able to work in a busy and stressful environment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Performs direct occupational therapy-related services to patients as ordered by a physician or following an established plan of care while under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.
a. Performs diagnostic tests, records findings and recommends to referring physician treatment appropriate plans and modalities.
b. Participates in the development, implementation, coordination, and periodic revision of plan of care if and when needed.
c. Makes home visits to provide direct occupational therapy instruction to clients & their families on activities and procedures necessary to promote cilent rehabilitation to maximum potential.
d. Evalutes the home environment, recommends modifications, and coordinates provision of assistive device in accordance to patient needs.
e. Maintains effective communication with physician and other members of the home health team.
 
2. Maintains and submits required documentation relative to care provided to the patient.
 
3. Demonstrates knowledge of compliance with agency policies related to home health care services.
